Miriam woke up in her wheelchair this afternoon! Praise the Lord!!! I have seen her right eye open several times but this was the first time I have seen Miriam crying and tried very hard to say something but couldn't. She looked at me in the eye as I explained to her what happened to her, why it happened, the surgery that was done to save her life, where she was in January and February and what her treatment plans are. I told her that she is now in Big Springs, a skilled nursing facility because she needs 24/7 of nursing care. Howie updated her about his school and his upcoming graduation. I also updated her about Warren. Then our sweet neighbor Laura walked into the room. Miriam heard her voice and she looked at her in the eye. She is responding slowly but surely.
She has gone back to sleep again but she did it again when she was transferred back to her bed. She is slowly improving and she will get better.
Mom and her sisters were crying and I am reminded of the scene in Jesus's empty tomb. John 20:11-13 " But Mary was standing outside the tomb weeping, she stooped and looked in to the tomb; 12 and saw two angels in white sitting, one at the head and one at the feet, where the body of Jesus been lying. 13" and they said to her" Woman, why are you weeping?"
Please do not give up praying for her. She is getting better!!!
In His Time,
Dad / Alex
We praise and thank the Lord our God for this latest development. We continue to pray for her complete recovery. Yes, in His time. Marvin & Veronica

I am very blessed that I chose yesterday to go see Miriam for the first time. She is surrounded by family and they are so upbeat and positive! Their devotion to her and "can do" attitude are admirable and contagious. Over and over in my mind, the song "Surely the Presence of the Lord is in this Place" kept going through my mind. Here are the words of the chorus and verse 1 - they are so applicable!
ReplyDeleteChorus
Surely the presence of the Lord is in this place
I can feel His mighty power and His grace
I can hear the brush of angels wings
I see glory on each face
Surely the presence of the Lord is in this place
Verse 1:
In the midst of His children the Lord said He would be
It doesn’t take very many, it can be just two or three
And I feel that same sweet spirit that I felt often times before
Surely I can say I’ve been with the Lord

Miriam looked at me several times with her right eye and she moved her right foot while I was there, as well. She looks wonderful! I didn't know what to expect, but she is still our beautiful Miriam! I also believe that she can hear me - whenever Howie and I began talking, that is when she began moving. I enjoyed hearing Alex and Howie talk about her progress and plans for the future.
I look forward to visiting her more and I promised her yesterday that I am going to bring my iPod music to play for her. I know she will enjoy some of the songs, I am wondering how she will take, "Play That Funky Music, Whiteboy!" haha - I am hoping that will get her moving some more.
Love and prayers to Miriam, Howie, Warren and Alex and the entire extended family,
Amy Epps
Amazing news!!! I am so happy to hear she woke up. I knew she would :). Keep updating us with her progress. I will continue to pray for her recovery. I know it is a long process, but I learned the brain is an amazing thing and Miriam will return to her old self.
